Horniman Public Museum and Public Park Trust Event Manager for 696 Summer 2021 The Event Manager will support operational development and oversee technical production of the Horniman’s 696 festival programme. You’ll act as primary liaison between the venue and external partners and contractors in the lead up to events. You will manage the site during events and oversee key event staff. 696 is a celebration of Black music in south London, happening across the Horniman Museum and Gardens from 30 June - 29 September 2021. 696 champions Black music genres - and the people working in them - that have been disproportionately affected by bias in legislation. It is a black-led artistic interrogation into the relationship between public space & Black live music. Gigs and events range from 50 person indoor gigs in the Horniman’s Conservatory, to 2,500 capacity one day family festival happening across the Horniman Gardens. An overview of the events and performances Role overview Event Manager Fixed fee of £10,000 Fee to cover period end of June – end of September 2021 This period and fee will cover: 13 fixed dates of work (event days) Additional admin days, dates flexible and to be discussed with Horniman (estimated 1-2 admin days per week for 12 week period) Closing date for applications: 23 June 2021 at 9.00am Interviews: Thursday am, 24 June 2021 Please send a covering letter and CV outlining your relevant experience to: [email protected] Fixed event dates of work are: Wednesday 30 June Wednesday 28 July Saturday 31 July Sunday 1 August Thursday 5 August Sunday 8 August Thursday 12 August Sunday 15 August Thursday 19 August Wednesday 25 August Thursday 26 August Sunday 29 August Wednesday 29 September Job description and responsibilities On admin days (including but not limited to): - Liaise with tech/av production partner in lead up to event – manage handover to production company on event day Liaise with Horniman Music Producer and Event Manager on event operations and programming in lead up to event days Familiarise yourself with event plans, risk assessments and Horniman operational and health and safety procedures in advance of event days On event days (including but not limited to): - Meeting suppliers and contractors to oversee set up (could be on the day or day before) Ensure risk assessments are adhered to and checks completed Understand and manage emergency evacuation plan Do staff briefings Oversee vehicles on site and that this is managed safely Brief external and internal security staff Brief event staff Set up signage Set up/unlock spaces Manage staff including breaks and timesheets at end of day Understand COVID risks and safety measures and oversee the implementation on the event day (to be discussed and agreed with Horniman Event Manager in advance) For any food traders check stalls and safety/hygiene set up and any generators Monitor queues – for tickets and bars and food – respond accordingly Monitor bins and respond accordingly Monitor toilets and respond accordingly First aid – briefing if security are managing (they should have pre-event briefing too) Act as point of contact for contractors, suppliers, AV company, and staff on the day Responsive on radio at all times Experience required for role - Management of live music events Event management experience working on large scale outdoor events (1000+ people) Understanding of current health and safety in line with industry guidance such as The Purple Guide Delivering excellent visitor experience
