KERRY COUNTY COUNCIL COMHAIRLE CONTAE CHIARRAI ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT BLENNERVILLE WINDMILL CÚNTÓIR RIARACHÁIN MUILEANN GAOITHE CATHAIR UÍ MHÓRÁIN (PERMANENT SEASONAL POSITION) KERRY COUNTY COUNCIL County Kerry has a population of approximately 147,000 people in an area covering 4,700 square kilometres and Kerry County Council is responsible for the delivery of the full range of local government services. Kerry County Council seeks to enhance the county’s attraction as a place in which to invest, work, and live, and takes the lead role in shaping the strategic vision of the county. It provides a diverse, multi-layered and evolving range of services to both citizens and visitors to County Kerry, which include the provision of housing, planning, development, environmental, roads and traffic, leisure and community services. It also has an enhanced role in leading out economic and community development in the County. The Council works in partnership with other state, public and private bodies in the delivery of critical infrastructure and shared services. The 2022 annual revenue budget for the local authority is approximately €177 million. The Council also continues to invest in the infrastructure of the county and through its Capital Investment Programme and capital expenditure in the region of €130 million is proposed for 2022. Kerry County Council has an elected body comprising of thirty-three Councillors and employs a workforce in excess of 1300 employees, currently covering 5 Municipal Districts – Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Kenmare and Castleisland - Corca Dhuibhne. THE POSITION Blennerville Windmill is the largest working windmill in Ireland and is the centre piece of a major visitor attraction on the shores of Tralee Bay which includes an audio-visual theatre, exhibitions on milling, and on Blennerville’s role as a 19th century famine emigrant port. The Visitor Centre also includes a model railway exhibition on the Tralee & Dingle Light Railway (1891 to 1953), a craft workshop, and craft shop. The Centre is open from April to late October each year, and guided tours of the Windmill are provided. Based at the Windmill, the Administrative Assistant will play a key role in supporting the operation of the Windmill Visitor Centre, and will assist in all activities including the administration, visitor reception and marketing of the Centre. NATURE OF EMPLOYMENT: The position will be filled on a Permanent Seasonal basis with the appointee engaged each year from 1 April until 31 October. The appointee will serve in a probationary capacity for the duration of the first period of seasonal engagement. REMUNERATION: €600 per week (gross) ANNUAL LEAVE: 27 days per annum pro rata HOURS OF WORK: The normal working week will be 39 hours spread over 5 days including weekends. As the Centre is open to the public 7 days per week, the role involves work during evenings, weekends, and public holidays to meet the needs of the post. The appointee will be required to attend at such times as to ensure that the duties of the position are carried out in accordance with the job description The salary payable is fully inclusive and covers such work as may be required outside normal work hours whenever and however arising. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The key duties and responsibilities of the post include: this is a multi-task role and can involve greeting visitors, cash handling, tour guiding, promoting and general administrative duties at the Windmill Centre undertaking all general office duties including photocopying, filing, and dealing efficiently with written, verbal and electronic/ email queries responsibility for the raising of invoices and ensuring the reconciliation between order, approval, delivery and invoice compiling daily reports on visitor numbers and income cash handling, reconciling cash, and lodging to the bank of all monies received operating the shop and sales area assisting in the marketing and promotion of the centre attending and providing regular progress reports for Windmill Board meetings working with the media and tourism related partner organisations such as tour operators etc to raise the profile of the Centre, generate positive publicity and support the further growth of the Centre and the surrounding area support festival and event planning at the windmill centre eg annual steam threshing festival assist with the preparation of funding proposals to attract grants
