PRIMARY FUNCTIONS To offer support to blind and partially sighted service users throughout the Liverpool area. 2. DUTIES Involve offering a wide range of home-based support to blind and partially sighted service users, including: - a) Initial assessments and individual care plans to provide opportunities to exercise personal choice. b) Monitoring visits. c) Communication – instruction on talking book machine, assist in reading of correspondence, assessing service users for equipment to help reading. d) Assessing for appropriate equipment, to aid independence and instruction in the use of equipment. e) Marking of domestic appliances throughout the home. f) Supporting the Rehabilitation Officers with equipment delivery and reviews. g) Recreational Activities – to support the individual if they wish to join community groups, further education classes or various other activities, according to the individual’s wishes and interests. h) Supporting social activity groups run by Bradbury Fields, and to cover the staff leave and illness at these groups when required. i) To attend team meetings relating to the management and efficient running of the service. j) To be aware of relevant Health and Safety regulations. k) To respect the confidential nature of the work. l) To maintain an effective recording of tasks undertaken in accordance with the systems, policies and practices advocated and adopted by the Society. m) Any other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility for this role as designated by Bradbury Fields. PERSON SPECIFICATION: 1. Display a mature personality with excellent inter-personal skills, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, patience and a sense of humour. 2. Ability to show empathy for others and their individual needs. 3. Ability to use initiative and good judgement when this is required. 4. Ability to use assertiveness as a component of effective and non-aggressive communication. 5. An understanding of, and respect for the user’s right to privacy and confidentiality at all times (both during and outside of working hours). 6. Ability to take responsibility in an emergency. 7. Be a car owner or have access to a vehicle (support arrangements can be made for applicants who are unable to drive as a result of living with a disability). ESSENTIAL: The person appointed to this post will have the following qualifications and abilities: 1. Qualification in Social Care (NVQ Level 2 or above) or two years experience in social care, voluntary or paid. 2. A background knowledge of the needs of blind and partially sighted people. 3. Experience of dealing with service users face to face over the telephone or in writing. 4. Background knowledge of services provided for blind and partially sighted people. 5. The ability to undertake assessments and compile reports. 6. The ability to deal with information in a confident manner. 7. Be able to demonstrate commitment to team working. DESIRABLE: 1. Experience of working or mixing with people who are blind, partially sighted or those who have a dual sensory impairment. 2. Training or experience in providing First Aid. GENERAL: 1.
