Biographies and Photos of Newly Appointed IBSP Board Members Group I 1 Prof. Christian Amatore; Emeritus Director of Research in Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) FRANCE Born 1951. Professor Christian Amatore, was educated at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), the leading French center for higher education and research. He is now Emeritus Director of Research in CNRS and Distinguished Professor in the University of Xiamen, Fujian, China. He is a Full Member of the French Academy of Sciences where he served as a vice-President in charge of Education and serves now in its Committee for the Developing Countries (COPED), Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Member of the Academia Europaea, Member of The Third World Academy of Sciences, Foreign Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Honorary Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry and of the Chinese Chemical Society, Honorary Member of the Israeli Chemical Society, Distinguished Scientist of the French Chemical Society (SCF), Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) and of the Electrochemical Society (ECS), President and now Past President of the International Society of Electrochemistry. He served as one of the twenty members of the French High Council of Science and Technology, which advised the French Presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy on scientific and technological matters. He has been thrice knighted by the French Republic for his scientific achievements, being Knighted in the national Orders of Merits and of Legion d’Honneur and elevated to Officer in the Order of Academic Palms. In addition, Dr. Amatore received many important French and international awards and medals among which the Silver Medal (CNRS), the Reilley Award (SEAC), the de Broglie Medal (Academia dei Lincei), the Bourke Medal (RSC), the Galvani Medal (SCI), the Breyer Medal (RACI), the Heyrovsky award (Charles University, Prague), the Faraday Medal (RSC), the Volta Medal (ECS), Costin D. Nenitescu Medal (Romanian Society of Chemistry), the Grottius Medal, the Jaroslav Heyrovsky (ISE), the Lavoisier (SCF) and the Gold Electrochimica Acta (ISE) Medals. He has been distinguished lecturer in many outstanding universities (Royal Society (London), Oxford, Durham, Cornell, Pittsburgh, Prague, Caltech, Padua, Modena, Roma La Sapienza, Japan JSPS, Bologna, Cluj, Bucharest, etc.) and is Honorary Professor or Doctor Honoris Causa of several major universities in Europe and Asia, and is now “Distinguished Visiting Professor” in the University of Xiamen in mainland China. Dr. Amatore has a true passion for science and his imaginative approach led him in many diverse directions during his career, allowing him to go across the traditional boundaries of different types of sciences in order to develop original and effective research works. His research contributions are disclosed in 509 primary publications in international journals with peer-review accumulating more than 26 700 citations and corresponding to a h-index of 83 (according to ISI Web of Science, 07/31/2021)1 with an average citations rate larger than 1 200 per year over the past 7 years. 2 Prof. Christopher M.A. Brett President of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) PORTUGAL Born 1954. Professor Christopher M.A. Brett is the President of IUPAC. He holds MA and DPhil degrees from the University of Oxford, UK. Prior to his election as Vice President at the 49th Council Meeting in São Paulo, Brazil he was an Elected Member of the Bureau and Member of the Executive Committee of the Bureau (2012-2015; 2016-2019). As Vice President, he Chaired the Evaluation Committee (2016-2019), was a member of the Membership Relations Committee (2012-2017) and member of the IUPAC Centenary Planning Steering Group. He was President of the Division of Physical and Biophysical Chemistry (2006-2007), a member of the Committee on Chemistry Education, and was member of the Electrochemistry Commission from 1994, chair in 2000-2001. He is a member of the Interdivisional Committee on Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development, having been on the Green Chemistry Sub-committee since its foundation in 2002.
