I want to make sure all FHS families have received notification of the recent Public Health Emergency Order requiring universal masking, so I am including that statement. You will notice there are provisions for an opt-out exemption for students for a variety of reasons and these are listed in the FCPS statement. Any parent or guardian who wishes to request an opt-out exemption for their student, must access the following link: : https://forms.gle/M779JMNFHccttr2w6 and complete the required document. Therefore, beginning Monday, August 16, 2021, Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) will require all staff members, visitors, and students to wear face masks at all times indoors, except while eating, drinking, at nap time, when exercising, or playing a musical instrument. This includes any FCPS workplace, school buildings, and while entering, exiting, and riding the school bus. Face coverings are optional for students and staff while participating in any activity outdoors. The Order allows for a parent/guardian to request an opt-out exemption for their student for the following reasons: The student has trouble breathing or is otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance. The student has a sincerely held religious objection. The student has a disability (IEP or 504) where wearing a mask would inhibit communication or the receiving of services. The student has a health condition or disability that prohibits wearing a mask. Parents/guardians will receive a link to a form from their child's school to officially notify the school if they are opting their child out of the universal mask mandate due to one of the reasons listed above. No child will be exempted from the universal mask mandate until their parent/guardian has completed the opt-out form.
