Dear Applicant Re: Head Teacher Vacancy Thank you for expressing an interest in the vacancy for Head Teacher at Amberley Primary School. Due to the impending retirement of our current Head Teacher, the Governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Head Teacher who will play a critical role in the continued development of our outstanding school. Amberley is a larger than average, and growing, two form entry Primary School with Nursery unit, for children aged from three to eleven years. Nursery and school entry is currently oversubscribed. Located in the centre of Killingworth, opposite a shopping centre, and within easy travelling distance of the A1 and A19, we are situated approximately seven miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. Originally built as a first school in 1973, our buildings were refurbished and modernised in 2000, with a purpose built extension to accommodate our role as a primary school. The school building is attractively situated, set back from the road within large grounds including a grassed area in front and west of the building, extensive playing fields to the north, three playgrounds and vegetable / wildlife garden areas. Perhaps the most distinctive feature however, is our 6kW wind turbine situated on the south west corner of the site. The school is well equipped with two halls, a computer room and library. There is a large, welcoming staff room and staff parking is available on site. Currently, Amberley Primary School is judged by Ofsted to be an outstanding school, however, under the current framework, we appreciate that there will be some challenges to maintain this status. We are looking for an individual who will embrace this challenge with enthusiasm and purpose. Amberley has built a reputation for the quality of its teaching, the development of an innovative, creative curriculum, and a demonstrable commitment to sustainability. However, we have been successful in winning many other awards and standards, all of which are evident when walking round the school. We constantly strive to raise standards and provide the best opportunities for our pupils. We encourage them to be involved in activities which will enrich their lives and equip them with the skills they need to grow into informed, active and responsible citizens. We have very active School Council and Eco Warriors groups who are involved in decisions that affect the whole school. Our Year Five and Six pupils participate in the Amberley Angels scheme to support younger pupils. We welcome many visitors into school to enhance the curriculum and the children enjoy visits out into their community, whether singing carols in the shopping centre at Christmas, delivering harvest parcels to elderly residents or raising funds for local causes important to them. 1 of 2 Amberley Primary School We enjoy a close working relationship with our partner schools in the North Tyneside Learning Trust, in the Shiremoor Teaching Alliance and with George Stephenson High School where our pupils generally transfer to. We conduct excellent transition activities with the other feeder schools throughout Year Six including a trip to France, and our children participate in many sporting and arts activities. In fulfilling the role of Head Teacher, we are looking for someone who will: Expand and develop our vision to deliver continued improvement.
